Waiting For Rice
This morning as I did my normal scanning of the news and scores and I happened upon Time magazine's pictures for the week. Several pictures in there is a picture of a 6 year old Indian girl holding onto her 1 year old brother in a line waiting for rice hand outs. The image is quite amazing and speaks volumes to how much things are still out of wack in our world. Food insecurity has no place in 2012 on our planet and yet it is a growing issue. The income gap should be replaced with the hunger gap. Lets stop talking about who is making money and who isn't and why. Lets start talking about who is eating, who is not, and why. With the risk of sounding utopian, every child on this planet is born under the same sky. Not one of those children get to chose where they are born. From the second they are born they begin the process of making decisions but that very important decision of where they are born is not theres. Don't we owe it to them and ourselves to do everything in our power to make that one decision equal? After that, let nurture, circumstance, motivation, or whatever take over. Either they need to stop waiting for rice or all of us need to start.
